Performing and Visual Arts

Music speaks what cannot be expressed, Soothes the mind and gives it rest, Heals the heart and makes it whole, Flows from heaven to the soul.

Appraising the musical heritage
of our institution Sarala Birla Academy

Presently the following subjects are the part of learning and teaching by eminent musicians of the music field:

Since its inception 14 years ago, the music department of this institution has grown in leaps and bounds. Music at Sarala Birla Academy has always been an intrinsic part of the curriculum. A large number of our students opt for Music as subject of study in ICSE, ISC, IG and IB. SBA is amongst those few schools of India which take music very seriously. This year, 26 boys appeared for the Indian Music Diploma Examination conducted by the Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, and all of them achieved First Division. 10 of our students passed the Trinity Guildhall examination in Western Music.

At present, the Music Faculty here comprises 8 music teachers who are specialists in their fields, and teach 13 categories of music. Along with Indian and Western Classical music, SBA provides training in folk and regional music. The Music Department can rightfully boast of organising many grand shows like Vandana, Riturang, Sabrang, Swar Mahima, Raag Rang, Jay Swatantrate, Bachpan, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Beauty and the Beast -the musical play, and the project Shrishti.

The Srishti project, which is a world music symphony, has been recently undertaken by the music department of SBA since the from past two years, and marks an important milestone for the Department of Performing Arts as well as for the school. Srishti provided a platform for collaboration with western musicians from Germany, Holland and Belgium thereby opening avenues for students to interact and perform with musicians from a different culture and contextual background.

The school has also invited eminent musicians from time to time like Ustad Asad Ali Khan, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Pt. Runu Manzumdar, Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya, Smt. Kavita Krishnamurthy, Dr. Hams lekha, Manumurthi, Shri V. Sridhar and many others, to give an insight into Indian music and culture. We are sure that Music will continue to thrive in the portals of our institution, like always has, with such a dedicated and talented faculty and students.

Visual Arts Department

The Department of Visual Art at SBA serves as a place where students work across a diverse range of media, and through this interesting and diverse curriculum, they learn to think critically, communicate clearly and work creatively.

The Art Department works quietly behind the scenes for various productions of the Dramatic Club, All Round Square Conferences, Music Fest, Inter House One Act Plays and other events assisting with props, banners, stage backdrops, etc. The students actively contribute to the Annual Art and Craft Exhibition which is a showcase of multifarious mediums of the Art Department.

Apart from the regular classes of making still life and nature studies, the students of the Art Club showcase their creativity in different forms of art. The Art Club is open to all students who want to be creative and express themselves creatively. The club allows students of all years to work together and grow as artists. The students get an opportunity to learn woodcut printing, mono printing, silk screen printing, acrylic and water colour painting, paper mache, tie and dye and digital art. The spectrum of art activities also includes inter-class art, calligraphy and chart competitions.

The Art Department also provides opportunities to students to attend workshops and participate in various art related competitions where students have always shown commendable performance. Year after year, the students of the Art Department have made the school proud by consistently performing significantly well in the ICSE, ISC and IB board examinations.
